Jenn Sterger is finally sharing her side of a story that’s followed her for 15 years — the 2010 Brett Favre sexting scandal. The former sports broadcaster is opening up about how the media coverage impacted her life.

The controversy first surfaced when Deadspin published a report alleging that Favre had sent Sterger a lewd photo, along with unsolicited text messages and voicemails.

The former NFL star was accused of making unwanted advances toward Sterger, who was as a gameday host for the New York Jets at the time.

Now, the scandal is being revisited in Netflix’s latest installment its UNTOLD docuseries, titled The Fall of Favre, which premieres May 20. The series examines Favre’s journey from NFL stardom to a string of controversies.

“I was never treated like a person,” Sterger says in the documentary. “I think one of the reasons why it’s so hard for people to have any empathy for me on the internet is because I’m just a picture to them. And he was Brett Favre.”

Throughout the series, Sterger shares her perspective—revealing that she never actually met Favre.

“I’ve never met him,” she says. “We’ve never been in the same room. We’ve never shaken hands. We had no kind of relationship, no rapport, nothing.”

Sterger worked for the Jets in 2008 during Favre’s short stint with the team. According to her, the situation began when Favre allegedly asked another Jets employee to get her phone number. She claims that staff member gave out her number without her permission.

What followed, she says, were unsolicited text messages and voicemails from Favre—communications that eventually escalated to explicit photos.

After Sterger's contract with the Jets wasn't renewed in 2010, she continued to pursue a media career. The now 41-year-old has worked for brands like Sports Illustrated, NBC Sports and ABC.

Though she found new opportunities, Sterger says that the scandal took a toll on her broadcasting dreams. “My life was ruined and he went to the Hall of Fame,” she said.
