Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues couldn't control her emotions as she shared a hug with her parents after a nerve-wracking knock in the 2025 World Cup semifinal against Australia at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The youngster broke down in tears and greeted her parents as the Women in Blue reached the final.

Coming at the crease in the second over of the innings, Rodrigues found herself under pressure as Australia held the momentum while defending 338, especially after dismissing Shafali Verma for 10. Nevertheless, she stayed unbeaten on 127 and shared a match-defining partnership of 167 with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89) to put India on course to chase down the massive total. After Amanjot Kaur hit the winning runs, Rodrigues cried her heart out as her teammates swarmed the field.

The toss fell in favor of Australia as captain Alyssa Healy elected to bat first. Phoebe Litchfield top-scored for the tourists with 119, while Ellyse Perry (77) and Ashleigh Gardner (63) made half-centuries, setting India 339 to win, but it wasn't enough.

At the post-game presentation, Harmanpreet hailed the 25-year-old for being quite involved in the run-chase and credited her for holding her nerve throughout the innings. Kaur said:

"She (Rodrigues) is someone who always wants to do well for the team. Always very calculative and wants to take responsibility. We always have that trust on her. Both of us had a good time on the pitch. Whenever we were batting, we were complementing each other and calculating. Really enjoy batting with her. She is always telling me we got five runs, seven runs, two balls are left. That shows how involved she is. Amazed to see how she was thinking. Lots of credit to her, to hold her nerve and keep batting for the team."

The final on Sunday, November 2, will see a new champion getting crowned as India and South Africa lock horns.
