Jazz Chisholm Jr. lollipop controversy, explained: Why Aaron Boone blasted Yankees star after latest loss

1 hour ago 2

Some staples of food on a baseball diamond can include sunflower seeds and bubblegum. For New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., he was in the mood for a Blow Pop on Monday night's game against the Detroit Tigers.

The infielder was seen indulging in the sweet treat while playing his position in the fifth inning. The team was already down 4-1 and was on the verge of losing their third straight game, which they later did 5-3.

A day later, New York's manager, Aaron Boone, was featured on the "Talkin' Yanks" show, a prominent talk show hosted by Jomboy Media that discusses recent Yankee games. Boone was aware of the incident and did not mince words on his beliefs about dessert on the diamond.

Here's the latest on why the Yankees' manager blasted Chisholm after the team's third-straight loss.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. lollipop controversy

During the fifth inning of Monday night's game against Detroit, Chisholm was pictured on YES Network treating himself to a lollipop while playing second base on the diamond. The Yankees were down 4-1 to the Tigers at this point in the game and were on the cusp of losing their third straight game, which they did.

On Tuesday, Aaron Boone jumped on the "Talkin' Yanks" show, a popular Yankees talk show that the manager frequents as a guest. The show's host, Jomboy, asked Boone about the lollipop on the field. Here's a highlight of what the New York manager thought of the occurrence:

"Oh yeah, that pisses me off," said Boone. "I didn't know about it until after the game, so he and I talked about that. That won't be going on."

This wasn't Chisholm's first time treating himself to dessert on the diamond. On April 22 in Boston, the second baseman was seen with a lollipop in his mouth at the plate during an at bat, which he flied out on.

Michael Kay of YES Network noted Chisholm's sweet tooth on the broadcast. Originally, the long-time broadcaster thought it was a Tootsie Pop, but soon confirmed it was a Blow Pop.

WFAN, a prominent N.Y. sports radio station, discussed Chisholm's sweet treat antics. The Boomer and Gio show talked about the ramifications that could happen if the second baseman had to dive for a groundball, which he does often. Shaun Morash, a participant in the Evan and Tiki show, also gave his thoughts on the matter.
