Jaylen Brown admits that he sees VJ Edgecombe shining amid the discourse about his role

After a standout rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers, VJ Edgecombe became known as one of the biggest stars for the future. He has a natural skill set to become one of the go-to guys in the long run, but it seems he will be playing a smaller role for the foreseeable future. 

Even the outspoken Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green called him the "loser" of the offseason for Philly. The four-time champion believes that Edgecombe will have a smaller role, but new 76ers forward Jaylen Brown does not subscribe to that idea.

Jaylen Brown has no worries about VJ Edgecombe's future

As one of the brightest young talents in the league, Edgecombe is an exciting player for the 76ers' future. At the same time, he is also one of their best players today despite being only 21. He has a bright future ahead of him, especially since he will be learning from the likes of Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and LeBron James.

He might have a smaller role this season as more of a 3-and-D player, but that talent will shine through. Edgecombe also has a tremendous personality for an athlete, so he will find ways to assert himself in head coach Nick Nurse's system no matter what happens.

Brown talked about this discourse during his introductory press conference on Thursday, August 6. He knows that Edgecombe is hungry to prove himself, so he won't have much of an issue. In fact, Brown does have some type of kinship with Edgecombe because he sees a lot of himself in the youngster.

"VJ is in a similar situation that I was in a couple of years ago. Some of those rosters that were really stacked with talent, and I looked at it like a learning opportunity. I'm going to be in VJ's ear to just learn and grow... He's gonna carve out space for himself with his talent level alone. I'm a fan of VJ," Brown said about Edgecombe's development and new role with the 76ers.

Considering Brown did play alongside the likes of Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, and Jayson Tatum during his time with the Boston Celtics, he knows how to shine in a team full of star players. Edgecombe is in the same boat, and thankfully, he can learn from Brown himself as they are playing alongside each other.
