Four-time Major champion Jannik Sinner will face fifth seed Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters 2025.

Sinner beat Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-2 to set up a third-round date with Francisco Cerundolo. The Italian led by a break twice in the opening set, only to immediately concede his advantage on each occasion. A tie-break looked to be imminent, with both players holding serve with ease after the early exchange of breaks.

However, Sinner broke Cerundolo's serve in the 12th game of the set to take it. That opened the floodgates for him to dominate the rest of the match. He dropped only one game in the second set to register a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

Shelton scored a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Flavio Cobolli to reach the third round, where he was up against 12th seed Andrey Rublev. Both players remained unshakeable on serve in the first set, which led to a tie-break.

Shelton cruised to a 5-2 lead in the tie-break, though Rublev didn't give up that easily. The American eventually needed four set points to bag the set. He carried this momentum into the second set, going on a four-game run to secure a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win.

Sinner's win over Cerundolo was his 50th of the season, against only six losses as well. He has reached this mark for the third consecutive season. He has advanced to the quarterfinals in Paris for the first time. He needs to win the title in order to displace Carlos Alcaraz from atop the rankings.

Shelton didn't face a single break point in the previous round against Rublev and fired 15 aces as well. He has qualified for the ATP Finals as well in light of his latest win. Ahead of his debut at the year-end championships, he will now aim to score a long-awaited win over Sinner.

Shelton was out of action for a while after sustaining an injury during his US Open campaign. He's slowly starting to rediscover his best with every match, and that could spell trouble for the Italian. Their most recent tussle was a competitive affair despite ending in straight sets.
