Jake Paul finds spotlight at Olympics because of his girlfriend

There was a scene early in these Winter Olympics that caught a lot of eyes: There was Jake Paul, sitting with United States Vice President J.D. Vance.

Paul, the influencer and boxer, isn't the first guy you'd imagine to be sitting with Vance.

In this case, though, it makes sense as to why Paul is there.

Why is Jake Paul at the Olympics?

Jake Paul is in Italy because his girlfriend (now fiancee) Jutta Leerdam is a speed skater for the Netherlands.

Leerdam herself is a social media superstar, with 5.1 million Instagram followers.

She'll compete in the finals of the 1000 meters at 5:30 p.m. local time on Monday, Feb. 9. That's 11:30 a.m. ET.

Leerdam then races in the 500 meters, which is the shortest race in Olympic speed skating. That takes place on Sunday, Feb. 15, with a start time of 5:03 p.m. local time and 11:03 a.m. ET.

The 27-year old Leerdam won a silver medal in the 1000 meters at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

She also won the 2022 World Sprint Championship in the 500 and 1000 meters combined.

Paul, 29, is 12-2 in his boxing career, but in Italy, he'll just be watching and rooting on other athletes, including those from the U.S. and his Dutch better half.
