If the Las Vegas Raiders do decide to trade Maxx Crosby this offseason, it might not happen anytime soon.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Crosby had a "minor meniscus" repair in January and his recovery could take anywhere from three to four months, although Crosby's timeline is expected to be a bit shorter than that.
"Sources clarified that Crosby actually underwent a minor meniscus repair -- not a trim -- on Jan. 7, meaning his recovery will be measured in months, not weeks. A meniscus trim is often 4-6 weeks of recovery while a repair can be 3-4 months. Crosby's should be shorter," Rapoport reported.
Rapoport adds that because Crosby isn't likely to be fully cleared before the start of free agency, that could delay any trade until closer to the draft or later because teams may not be keen on trading for him before he's fully recovered.
"Teams can trust their medical experts and project a player's health, so a trade is, at least, possible," Rapoport stated. "But rarely are players not yet finished with rehab included in blockbuster trades. This likely means that if Crosby is traded, it may be much later, perhaps at the 2026 NFL Draft or prior to the season."
In the week leading up to the Super Bowl, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer said that he believes Crosby has played his last snap with the Raiders, with the possible last straw being Crosby's frustration over being shut down before the 2025 season ended because of his aforementioned injury.
Rapoport doesn't give a definitive answer on Crosby's availability via trade but did note that the star edge rusher and the Raiders are "in a great place" and he hasn't requested a trade.
"Sources say Crosby and the team are in a great place, even with Crosby obviously frustrated with not being able to finish the season on the field after he was shut down for the final two games of the 2025 season," Rapoport said.
"Crosby hasn't requested a trade," Rapoport added.
But that doesn't mean Crosby won't get traded.
His frustrations with the franchise pre-date the 2025 controversy and it is possible Crosby is finally fed up with the losing and dysfunction to the point he requests a trade in the weeks and months ahead.
And it's also possible the Raiders are interested in dealing Crosby, even if he does not demand one, as Las Vegas could potentially fast track their rebuild with the draft capital acquired in a Crosby trade.
