Jaguars trade rumor could result in deal with Commanders, 49ers, Raiders or Jets

Just when it seemed like all hope was lost for teams interested in a possible trade for Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., the door has once again been cracked open.

After a trade rumor swirled around Thomas in recent days, ESPN's Adam Schefter completely shot down it down, saying the Jaguars wideout was not available.

However, the reporter who kicked off the trade rumors, SNY's Connor Hughes, has since doubled-down during an appearance on 106.7 The Fan.

"[The Jaguars] are entertaining offers [for Brian Thomas Jr.]," Hughes said. "From my understanding, there aren't many concrete offers on the table right now, which is why that came out that they're not interested in moving him."

"If somebody makes them a compelling offer, they're gonna move him. Brian Thomas is available for the right price," Hughes added. "It's not imminent, but before the draft, it would not surprise me if Brian Thomas is playing for another team... I think a second-round pick this year gets it done."

Four teams that could make that compelling offer are the Washington Commanders, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.

The Commanders appear set to sign Brandon Aiyuk once he's released from the 49ers, but he's hardly anadequate No. 2 option across from Terry McLaurin considering he hasn't played since 2024.

In addition, Washington may also lose Deebo Samuel to free agency.

We know the Jets are reportedly interested in Thomas already, and they have a need at the WR2 spot across from Garrett Wilson, as that role is currently occupied by the unproven Adonai Mitchell.

The release of Aiyuk is just one reason why the Niners need help. They've also lost Kendrick Bourne to free agency and Jauan Jennings hasn't been re-signed and isn't guaranteed to be back.

In Las Vegas, the only move the Raiders have made to address their lackluster wide receivers room is the signing of the promising but unproven Jalen Nailor, who will be flanked by 2025 draft picks Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton, and veteran Tre Tucker.

Thomas had a very disappointing sophomore campaign, but he showed superstar potential during a 1,200-yard, 10-touchdown rookie season and he's still just 24 years olf so there should be significant interest in him from receiver-needy teams.

It's possible there hasn't been any movement because the Jaguars have set a high price, but perhaps that price will come down in due time and a deal gets done.
