Edge rusher Jaelan Phillips caused quite a stir shortly after he was dealt from the Miami Dolphins to the Philadelphia Eagles at the NFL Trade Deadline on Tuesday. He declared that joining Philadelphia was the "greatest thing" that has ever happened to him.

"This is literally the greatest thing that has happened to me in my whole life, probably," Phillips said after his trade. "It’s just awesome. The guys are awesome. Everybody has been super welcoming. I love the environment here; I love the vibe here."

Phillips made sure he wasn't retracting those statements following the Eagles' 16-9 win over the Detroit Lions at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

"I am doubling down on that statement," Phillips said loudly to a reporter after Sunday's game when he was asked if he still felt the same way.

That comment could be hurtful to fans of the Dolphins, as Miami was home to Phillips for four years after he was drafted out of the University of Miami in 2021. However, joining the Eagles has been a revitalizing move for the 26-year-old linebacker, especially with the team coming off a Super Bowl title and appearing well-positioned for another championship run this season.

Phillips' acquisition has also helped the Eagles in their last two games, as he has been a game-wrecker with two sacks and 11 tackles.

Jaelan Phillips is playing well for the Eagles in a contract year

Jaelan Phillips was acquired by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month with the hopes that he would play a crucial role in their defense until the end of the year. Philly gave up a third-round pick for the linebacker, and the deal is already looking like a steal after only two games.

In 53 defensive snaps played in his first outing against the Green Bay Packers, Phillips recorded six total tackles, seven pressures, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Then, he contributed four pressures and a sack in the game against the Detroit Lions in Week 11.

If Phillips continues to shine for the Eagles this season, the team will have every reason to offer him a new deal and secure his future in Philadelphia once his contract expires next offseason.

Jaelan Phillips, who is only 26 years old, has already shown that he is an excellent fit for the Philadelphia Eagles. His performance in the first two games suggests that he will continue to cause problems for opposition offenses, which will only increase his value when contract negotiations start taking place.
