T.J. Watt experienced discomfort at the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice facility during the therapeutic dry needling session on Wednesday afternoon. He was transported to a Pittsburgh-area hospital, and after further evaluation, he was advised to undergo surgery.
The star pass rusher's brother, former NFL defensive end J.J. Watt, shared a positive update on the Steelers linebacker's health via X on Friday.
"Yesterday TJ had successful surgery to stabilize and repair a partially collapsed lung suffered Wednesday after a dry needling treatment session at the facility," J.J. wrote. "Recovery timeline is still TBD, but all went well and he is being released from the hospital today. He and his family are very appreciative of everyone’s kind words and well wishes."•

The linebacker has been crucial for Pittsburgh this season, playing in all 13 games with 53 tackles, seven sacks and an interception. Last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, he logged six tackles and a quarterback hit while playing 68 of 77 defensive snaps in the Steelers' 27-22 victory. T.J. was not listed on the injury report before Wednesday's incident.
The Steelers currently lead the AFC North at 7-6, with the Baltimore Ravens trailing at 6-7. Pittsburgh has four regular-season games remaining, and T.J. Watt's availability will play a massive role in the team's run to the postseason. The NFL Players Association has reached out to the LB regarding the incident. The NFLPA said its priority is his health and complete recovery.

T.J. Watt tied the knot with longtime partner Dani in 2022, and the couple welcomed their first child earlier in March. Following the linebacker’s successful medical procedure, Dani thanked fans for the prayers and well-wishes they sent during a difficult stretch for the family.

And praise God for the amazing medical teams at both hospitals!"The Steelers will host the Miami Dolphins in the Week 15 game at Acrisure Stadium on Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN/ABC. T.J. Watt will not suit up against Tua Tagovailoa and Co., but according to insider Ian Rapoport, he is expected to play again this season.
