Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has expressed his reaction to the booing by the home crowd following the team’s loss to the Chicago Bears. Minnesota was defeated at home by the Bears on Sunday, with McCarthy putting up an underwhelming performance and being subjected to boos from the fans.

The quarterback reacted to the boos in the postgame press conference, justifying the fans’ high expectations. He said:

“We got the greatest fans in the world; they expect a lot more out of us. Rightfully so. And I feel like, you know, it’s just a reminder to us that we better get going, better figure this out. Obviously, we haven’t got a lot of games left, so the urgency is at an all-time high. We just gotta be better for the fans, especially at home.”

McCarthy completed 16 of 32 throws for 159 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions as the Vikings lost by two points to the Bears. One of the highlights of the quarterback’s struggle on Sunday came when he missed wide receiver Justin Jefferson on third-and-7. The miss annoyed Vikings fans, who reacted with boos. McCarthy acknowledged the mistake, saying after the game:

“You just can’t miss those. This league’s too hard. There’s three or five decisions [and] plays that I want back more than anything, and that’s not one of them.”

However, Jefferson was quick to take the heat off McCarthy during his postgame interview. The wideout said:

“It wasn’t the best game for all of us. I feel like we should have played better all in all. But at the end of the day, when it all counted and it all mattered, J.J. stepped up. … As a captain, as a leader of this team, I have to be the first one out there.”

Minnesota legend thumbs down J.J. McCarthy’s performance in loss to Bears

Former Minnesota wide receiver Cris Carter was unimpressed with J.J. McCarthy’s performance against the Bears despite a late touchdown drive. Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho praised the quarterback’s late drive in an X post to which Carter reacted with a seven-word question. He wrote:

“Did you watch the first 59 minutes? 👎”

J.J. McCarthy impressed in the fourth quarter of the game, before which he had only completed 10 of 22 passes for 74 yards and two interceptions. However, it was not enough to salvage a win for the Vikings.
