J. Cole explains why LeBron James was carrying 'The Fall Off' vinyl

LeBron James is a huge hip-hop fan, so it wasn't surprising to see the Los Angeles Lakers icon strolling with a J. Cole vinyl recently. However, amid the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake in 2024 -- LeBron was seen in several videos rapping along to Kendrick's music while he's been friends with the Toronto rapper for over a decade -- many fans believed that he was being "performative" by holding Cole's latest LP. Cole, however, explained that it was deeper than music as to why the Lakers star was holding The Fall Off vinyl in the now viral photo.

However, there was more to the eye as Cole shared that there was a "story to go with that," noting that it wasn't a random gesture that in fact, the Lakers legend was "doing him a solid." 

"In reality, that was at the Heat game and he was bringing his vinyl to the Heat game because I was at the Heat game and I asked him if he would meet my kids," Cole explained during an episode of 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony. "My oldest is getting into basketball and Bron is his number one and he's asking me all season if he could go to a Laker game and see the Lakers. I hit Bron and he graciously said he would do it."

Cole was ultimately very thankful that LeBron agreed to meet his children, as he was able to sign the vinyl for him as well. The rapper shares two sons with his wife, Melissa Heholt. 

"To see your kids meet a superhero, that was my first time ever doing some [expletive] like that ... It made me appreciate all the times that there was a father or something that had they kid ... I get to sign an autograph or take a picture ... Now that I've been through it ... You gave my son a lifelong memory. So shout out to LeBron for that.

The North Carolina legend dropped The Fall Off in February and will be going on tour this summer.
