Once again, the Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing to defend their title. As the winner of the past two World Series, they have one of, if not the best, rosters in baseball.
One aspect of the Dodgers' roster that struggled in 2025 was the bullpen. Closer Tanner Scott had the worst season of his career, and both Kirby Yates and Blake Treinen posted ERAs above 5.00.
On Wednesday, the NL West club continued to add to its pitching staff depth. The Dodgers' transactions log indicated that they've signed former New York Yankees reliever Jake Cousins to a Major League deal.
In a corresponding move, right-hander Bobby Miller was placed on the 60-day injured list due to a shoulder injury.
Dodgers sign pitcher rehabbing from Tommy John Surgery
Don't expect to see Cousins on the mound for the Dodgers anytime soon, as the right-hander underwent Tommy John Surgery last June. His contract is controllable by arbitration through 2028, giving Los Angeles time to be patient with his progress.
Cousins turned into manager Aaron Boone's most trusted middle relief options with the Yankees in 2024. The 31-year-old posted a 2.37 ERA and recorded 53 strikeouts in 38 innings with the AL East organization.
From 2021-23, Cousins spent parts of three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, and he's a former 20th-round draft pick of the Washington Nationals in 2017.
