"It's all moot as long as Tua Tagovailoa is QB": Nick Wright unimpressed with Dolphins firing GM Chris Grier

Nick Wright believes that as long as Tua Tagovailoa is the starting quarterback, the Miami Dolphins will continue to have problems on the field. On Friday's episode of "First Things First", he shared his thoughts on the team firing GM Chris Grier after 10 seasons.

"It's all moot as long as that guy (Tua Tagovailoa) is your quarterback and you're paying him that much money," Wright said. "You can't win that way. ... I felt that Tua was temporarily propped up by Tyreek being in the midst of one of the greatest stretches any wide receiver's ever had, ... and what was a very innovative offensive style that the league did not have a lot of tape on and hadn't caught up to yet. "To me, this is about the quarterback, "Wright added. "Because the quarterback got paid like he's a star. The quarterback, to me, does not have the arm strength, the size the mobility or the leadership of a franchise quarterback."

The Miami Dolphins suffered another humiliating 28-6 loss at home on Thursday at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. Fans were frustrated with the team's 2-7 campaign this season and demanded the firing of both Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel.

Tua Tagovailoa has also had trouble finding any offensive momentum on the field this year. Against the Ravens, he completed 25 of 40 passes for 261 yards and one interception. In nine games, the Pro Bowler, who was given a four-year, $214.2 million extension in July 2024, recorded 1,779 yards and 15 TDs passing, along with 11 interceptions to his name.

Tua Tagovailoa's teammate Jordyn Brooks opens up about the disappointing 28-6 loss to the Ravens

In the post-game press conference, Jordy Brooks sounded off on his team's performance against the Ravens. He questioned the offense led by Tua Tagovailoa and pointed fingers at them for not creating scoring chances.

"I thought they (the Ravens' offense) had a decent game, but a lot of that came towards the end of the game. The game was out of reach," Brooks said. "I felt we played well defensively in the first half, but like I said, turnovers, that kills you. Not capitalizing, not scoring when we could, giving him an extra set of downs. Players like that, they're going to find a way to get in the end zone, so we got to capitalize when we got the chance to and play complimentary football."

The Dolphins are next scheduled to face the Buffalo Bills next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
