On Thursday, October 30, LE SSERAFIM posted a TikTok of them participating in the Group 7 trend, soon after the court's final verdict regarding NewJeans' lawsuit with ADOR on the validity of their exclusive contract. For those who are unaware, the Group 7 TikTok trend is a viral inside joke that was created by Sophia James while promoting her new single, So Unfair.

In an attempt to break the algorithm, the artist posted 7 different TikTok videos featuring her new single to promote the same and check which garners the most attention. This led to the song recieving a massive audience, and several people adopting the scheme of posting seven times on the same topic to garner virality and escape the boxes of the algorithm.

This became a viral trend, especially because of its hilarious yet absurd nature. The trend, then, began to spill outside its originality, and several people talked about them being part of Group 7, which is not considered exclusive of the chosen ones. Therefore, LE SSERAFIM participating in the TikTok trend communicated their pride and happiness to be a part of a successful K-pop girl group.

However, given that this TikTok video landed on the internet shortly after the final verdict that NewJeans lost their lawsuit on the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR, it sparked criticism. Netizens expressed that LE SSERAFIM were allegedly boasting and spitefully talking about their success while NewJeans have faced a recent loss in their career.

As more people continued to direct criticism towards the LE SSERAFIM members for the ill-timed and alleged negative intention behind the TikTok video, many fans came to the group's defense. People explained that the TikTok trend was most likely filmed a while back as part of the promotions for their latest comeback, SPAGHETTI.

They also further stated that the group was simply participating in a currently viral TikTok trend to best promote their new comeback. Fans also called out netizens for speculating on alleged far-fetched rumours about the K-pop girl group, and requested people to refrain from creating unnecessary drama and tension between the two groups. Here are a few fan reactions regarding the same:

"Are you guys in the qrts fucking stupid? It's a damn TikTok trend, so now LE SSERAFIM can't even join a trend because of y'all being too woke," said a fan

are you guys in the qrts f*cking stupid? it's a damn tiktok trend so now le sserafim can't even join a trend because of yall being too woke

More fans and netizens came in defense of LE SSERAFIM and their recent TikTok video of the Group 7 trend, and expressed that they didn't communicate as a shade towards NewJeans.

Context: Group 7 (which Le Sserafim followed) is just a current random TikTok trend, sort of like 67 trend 2.0, this is why literacy is needed

Others also shared their thoughts and opinions about the same.

NewJeans loses lawsuit as court rules in favour of ADOR regarding exclusive contract

On October 30, the 41st Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favour of ADOR, upholding the validity of the exclusive contract between the two parties. The court explained that the behavior represented by ADOR is not viable enough to be considered a breach of contract.

Additionally, the court also explained that the demotion of the former ADOR CEO, Min Hee-jin, to the Board Director gave her enough power to continue with her duties as the group's producer. Moreover, the court also didn't accept NewJeans' claim of experiencing workplace harassment at the hands of ADOR since the evidence seems to be insufficient. Here's what the final verdict read:

“It is difficult to conclude that ADOR breached the exclusive contract solely by dismissing former CEO Min Hee Jin. Even if Min Hee Jin was removed from the CEO position, she could have performed producer duties as a director on the board, and it was not necessary for her to remain CEO to do so.”

The verdict continued,

"It is hard to see whether Min Hee Jin’s dismissal is a core issue that determines the continued validity of the exclusive contract, and there is no clause in the contract that provides a basis for this. Even if the defendants (NewJeans) had great trust in former CEO Min Hee Jin, that alone does not constitute grounds to terminate the exclusive contract.”

The court conclusively stated,

"Even after dismissing former CEO Min Hee Jin, ADOR continued efforts to carry on management work with the defendants. Considering preparations for album releases, performances, and fan meetings, and advertising and tour plans, it is difficult to conclude that the plaintiff (ADOR) neglected its management obligations.”

On the other hand, NewJeans released a response statement for the court's final verdict through their legal counsel, Shin & Kim LLC, expressing that they will be filing an appeal, as they are not interested in returning to ADOR.
