The Houston Astros are in trade talks this offseason, and while it's no surprise, the club is in serious talks for a wild three-team trade.

According to Chandler Rome and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Astros are in trade talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays in a wild three-team trade.

The return for Houston is potentially 26-year-old right-hander starter Mike Burrows of the Pirates, while the Pirates would be landing Brandon Lowe. While the exact details aren't known just yet, the Astros would be sending a pair of prospects to the Rays in this deal.

"The Astros, Pirates, and Rays are in serious discussion about a trade that would send right-hander Mike Burrows to Houston, infielder Brandon Lowe to Pittsburgh, and involve multiple other players, sources tell Ken Rosenthal and me," Rome reported.

Rosenthal followed that report from Rome up with two more key updates, one about how the Rays would send Jake Mangum and Mason Montgomery to the Pirates, while the Astros would send Jacob Melton and Anderson Brito to the Rays.

This is a wild three-team trade in the works, in which the Rays would be landing a few strong Astros prospects, including top-ranked Melton and Brito, while the Pirates would land Lowe for the 226 season and alos pickup a couple of Rays prospects.

The Astros' side of this three-team deal would have Houston landing a much-needed starting pitcher, and a very interesting one at that.

While the Astros are only getting one player in this return, it's likely the best one in the trade. Burrows is only 26 years old and is under club control through the 2031 season.

The right-hander pitched in 23 games in 2025, starting 19, and posting a decent 3.94 ERA with 1.5 bWAR, 97 strikeouts, and a 1.240 WHIP in 96 innings pitched.

Houston desperately needs more starting pitching, and Burrows is a cheap, long-term solution to the rotation issues Houston has dealt with in recent years.

While the cost is high, in Melton and Brito, Burrows should lock up a spot on the Astros rotation for years to come. Behind Hunter Brown, Burrows is quality depth and could turn into a strong starter for Houston, looking into the future.
