No, Sandrone has not yet been confirmed as Mary-Ann in contrary to the popular theory brewing in Genshin Impact's community. This theory began two years ago with respect to Fontaine's history, with a woman named Mary-Ann. The “Ann of the Narzissenkreuz” World Quest series gave even more context about who she was, and the community quickly noticed the similarities between her and Sandrone.
This theory has resurfaced after the recent Archon Quest “An Elegy for Faded Moonlight,” where many players noticed that Sandrone talks about the Narzissenkreuz story but never acknowledges Mary-Ann. This article explores their similarities and their roles, as this could be a hint by HoYoverse for Sandrone's story quest in the future.
Sandrone and Mary-Ann's similarities in Genshin Impact
As players know by now, Sandrone is the Seventh of the Fatui Harbingers and is known for her expertise in engineering automatons and mechanical constructs. On the other hand, Mary-Ann was a member of the Narzissenkreuz Institute and shared a close bond with her brother Alain Guillotin.
Through the World Quest series "Ann of the Narzissenkreuz", we get to know that Mary-Ann had died in an explosion during the battle in Elynas, though her body was never recovered. Some players believe that Sandrone could either be Mary-Ann herself, preserved or reborn through mechanical means, or perhaps an advanced construct modeled after her by her brother Alain Guillotin.
Players have observed how both characters share an interest in machines and also physical features with each other, like their hair and eyes. In Genshin Impact’s latest Archon Quest, Sandrone talks about Alain and other members of the Institute in a way that she may have known them personally. However, she doesn't acknowledge the only remaining character in the story being Mary-Ann due to unknown reasons.
Ever since then, players have been thinking that perhaps this is a hint by HoYoverse regarding her story in future updates following version Luna II.
Who were the Narzissenkreuz in Genshin Impact?

Members of the Narzissenkreuz Institute (Image via HoYoverse)The Narzissenkreuz cast consisted of many key figures in Fontaine's history, like Rene de Petrichor, Jakob Ingold, and Alain Guillotin. They originated from the Narzissenkreuz Institute, which originally looked after orphans and criminals under the director Basil Elton and the mascot Oceanid Lyris. However, it fell apart when the Cataclysm occurred 500 years ago, which led to the imminent death of the director.
The remaining members had scattered across Fontaine like Alain Guillotin went to pursue his passion to research the technology of Khaenri'ah, while his sister Mary-Ann had joined the Marechaussee Phantom. Rene and Jakob, on the other hand, went on their own path under their mentor named Karl Ingold, to learn the secrets of the Abyss, Khaenri'ah's World Formula, and the truth behind Teyvat's samsara.
Today, their inventions influence almost all of Fontaine’s current technology and research, contributing to studies about their world.

As of now, Genshin Impact has not revealed much about Sandrone’s backstory, but this could be a hint by HoYoverse towards her growing relevance in Fontaine’s narrative. Until then, the idea that Sandrone is Mary-Ann remains just a theory in the community.
