Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel's role with the team has come under scrutiny this season and the noise around the third-year coach's future with the team is getting louder every week.
Following the Dolphins' seventh loss of the season against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, the team fired general manager Chris Grier, ending his 10-year role with the team.
"This morning, I made the decision along with general manager Chris Grier to mutually part ways," team owner Stephen Ross said. "I have incredible respect for Chris and his family, and I want to thank him for his many contributions to the Miami Dolphins over the past 26 years."•

Although the team parted ways with Grier, McDaniel's job is safe for the time being. ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on Friday that the Miami coach will remain with the team for the remainder of the season. He wrote on X:

"Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel will remain Miami’s head coach for the remainder of the season at least, per sources."McDaniel's team is 2-7 for the season and New Orleans fired coach Dennis Allen after posting a similar record after nine games last season. Even if McDaniel's job is safe for the season, the team could decide his future in the offseason.
NFL analyst reveals potential factor that could decide Mike McDaniel's Dolphins future
Mike McDaniel put the league on notice after building a prolific Dolphins offense in 2023, racking up the second-most points in the league that season. However, the team has not been able to reach the same standards in the following seasons.
Although Tyreek Hill's season-ending injury in Week 4 has played a role in the offensive slump this season, they still have players capable of pulling through for the team.
While NFL analyst Ian Rapoport believes Miami owner Stephen Ross is backing the young coach, he feels the Dolphins HC will be judged on the basis of his players' belief in him.
"I do not sense anything imminent from owner Stephen Ross, who likes him, believes in him and has invested in him," Rapoport said. "But here is how McDaniel is going to be judged. How do the players respond? What is it like in the locker room? Do they keep playing for him, or do they not, and can you see it? That is going to determine whether he keeps his job."The Dolphins are still in the playoff race, mathematically; however, it will take a miraculous turnaround from the AFC East team to make the postseason.
