Is Luka Doncic out for the season? Lakers star injury return timeline leaves playoffs in doubt

1 hour ago 3

It's the kind of news the Los Angeles Lakers absolutely did not need.

But the latest information shared by the team about Luka Doncic's hamstring injury is less than ideal.

It puts into question his chance of playing in the postseason, and without Doncic, the Lakers would be in a tough spot.

This season, Doncic has averaged an astounding 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.

One of the best players on the planet will now have to work hard to get back on the floor.

Is Luka Doncic out for the season?

Doncic is not out for the entire season, no.

The Lakers did confirm in their announcement Friday that Doncic is out for the rest of the regular season, though.

It'll be a race to the playoffs.

What is Luka Doncic's injury?

Doncic has a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.

That's an official diagnosis from the Lakers.

Will Luka Doncic be back for the playoffs?

It remains to be seen when Doncic will be back.

Lakers reporter Jovan Buha wrote on X on Friday:

"The average timetable to return for a Grade 2 hamstring strain is 3-6 weeks. The playoffs start in 15 days."

Sounds like the Lakers may have to figure out the first round of the playoffs without Doncic, or at least with a limited version of him, and then hope they advance and get their superstar back sooner rather than later.
