Inside Bronny James' nightmare point guard play in Lakers' historic loss to OKC Thunder

1 hour ago 3

Bronny James isn't really considered a point guard, but on Thursday night, that's the position he played down the stretch of the Los Angeles Lakers' 43-point loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It was quite the mixed bag -- there are some lowlights going viral, but Bronny also did a few good things.

His final stats were reasonable enough:

  • 18 minutes
  • 10 points
  • 4-8 FG
  • 2-4 3FG
  • 1 assist
  • 1 block
  • 3 turnovers

The turnovers were particularly ugly, though, which drew some attention on social media after the game.

This clip is going viral, showing Bronny failing to handle on-ball pressure well at all:

The caveat here is that the OKC defender wearing No. 22 is Cason Wallace, who is one of the stingiest on-ball defenders in the NBA. It's not really shameful that Bronny can't handle the pressure.

At the same time, that reality is telling. If Bronny wanted to prove in this cameo during a blowout that he can play real point guard minutes at the NBA level, he didn't particularly prove that here.

The more notable development all season long has been Bronny's shooting, which always felt like his swing skill coming out of USC. He's shot the ball so much better in his second professional season than his first.

If that's for real, and the trend continues, Bronny will have a legitimate case to sticking around the fringes of the NBA as a solid defender and burgeoning shooter.

It just doesn't look like he's going to be a point guard.
