Is Josh Jacobs playing today? Latest injury update, fantasy advice for Packers RB in Week 7

2 hours ago 3

The Green Bay Packers have a significant injury concern going into their Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals, as running back Josh Jacobs is questionable.

Jacobs was added to the injury report to start the week with an illness and was limited on Wednesday and Thursday. He then had a calf issue added on Friday but was able to turn in a full session the same day before drawing the questionable tag.

While things were looking up for Jacobs to play this week thanks to the full session, there was a concern about his status after the Packers elevated running back Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad for the contest against Arizona, which signaled Green Bay might be preparing for Jacobs' absence.

Here's what we know about the Packers running back on Sunday.

Is Josh Jacobs playing today?

There is no definitive answer yet, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Jacobs is a "true game-time decision," so we may not know if he plays until an hour and a half before the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, when the Packers drop their inactives list.

Schefter adds that if Jacobs doesn't play, backup running back Emanuel Wilson will get the start for the Packers.

"Packers RB Josh Jacobs, listed as questionable for Sunday due to illness and a calf injury, is now being considered a 'true game-time decision' for Sunday’s matchup vs. the Cardinals, per source," Schefter reported. "The team says it does not expect to know whether he can play until Sunday. If Jacobs is unable to play, Packers RB Emanuel Wilson would be the expected starter."

Josh Jacobs start or sit advice

Jacobs is an RB1 and an every-week starting option, regardless of matchup. The only way you aren't starting him on Sunday is if he's reported to have a significantly reduced role because of his injury.

Verdict: Start (if active and no reduced role)

Who is Josh Jacobs' handcuff?

The late kickoff makes waiting for Jacobs a risky proposition, but there is a way to back yourself up.

As Schefter reported, Emanuel Wilson will lead the backfield if Jacobs doesn't suit up on Sunday. Wilson has operated as the clear-cut No. 2 back since 2024, so there's plenty of evidence to support that.

Emanuel Wilson start or sit advice

Wilson will offer RB2 value if Jacobs sits.

Not only will he have a big workload, but the Cardinals are ceding the 10th-most fantasy points per game to the position this season. He is a fine replacement for Jacobs and should be on waivers in all leagues.

Verdict: Start
