Khloe Kardashian Details Her "Control Freak" Pre-Trip Checklists Before Leaving Kids

Let’s give three cheers to Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson’s son Tatum Thompson.

Their little one celebrates his third birthday July 28.

If you’ve been keeping up, then you know Khloe celebrated Tatum’s birthday last year with a dinosaur-themed party.

“I am so proud to be your mommy,” the Good American mogul, who also shares 7-year-old daughter True Thompson with her ex, wrote in an Instagram tribute to her son last year. "So proud of the love and laughter we have in our house. So proud of your beautiful, gentle, polite, intelligent, loving, infectious spirit. You light up every single room. There’s no denying that Everyone smiles when they look at you! Especially True she is so proud to call you hers, as am I."

Speaking of Tatum’s older sister, she’s had some pretty fabulous parties of her own. True entered her 7th year with a Rainbow Friends soirée. And the year before, she enjoyed a cat-themed bash—a purrrrrfect fit given Khloe gifted her pet Baby Kitty (who joined fellow feline Grey Kitty).

"God always has a plan and you and I together was definitely part of our life plan,” The Kardashians star wrote on Instagram in a message for True’s 6th birthday. "I was destined to be your mommy!"

And it’s true what they say, kids grow up so fast.

"True, when I tell you I CHERISH the time I have with you, I absolutely mean that!" Khloe also shared in her post. "Every single moment and memory is etched in my heart. I never thought I could love anything or anyone the way I love you. Every single minute I have with you I fall deeper in love. Thank you for saving me. You did so without even knowing it. You are my angel girl!"

Over the past few years, Khloe has watched her kids go through major milestones. Tatum, who is the spitting image of KoKo's brother Rob Kardashian, learned new words and grew from a baby to (as his aunt Kim Kardashian called him) a "little man." True also performed in her dance recitals and started first grade. And while Khloe was happy about her daughter beginning a new school year, she admitted on Instagram she was also feeling "not OK" about it.

"There’s this undeniable feeling that I’m losing parts of who she was with each day that passes," the mom of two further explained on Snapchat last August. "The little parts of who she used to be are being replaced with new parts that will make up the next little amazing person she will become. And I miss her. All the little versions of her who I used to know. Time moves fast, faster every year it feels like, and this new school year is a reminder to me to fully embrace every moment and soak it all in."

Those near and dear moments range from family vacations and holiday celebrations to just day-to-day life at home and time spent with cousins (while Khloe’s kids are close to all her siblings' children, she’s noted they’re “besties” with Rob’s 7-year-old daughter Dream Kardashian and that the connection Kim’s son Saint West has with Tatum is “one that can’t be explained.”)

When it comes to their daily routine, Khloe's kids follow a well-established schedule. And even though she’s sometimes felt judged by a few of her famous family members—who in addition to Rob and Kim include sisters Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner as well as mom Kris Jenner—she’s not going to let them determine her parenting style.

“My sisters and I, we all have different households. We raise our kids differently,” Khloe said on a 2024 episode of their Hulu series The Kardashians. “I’m not judging. If everyone is healthy, happy and great, then wonderful. But my type of parenting is we do everything by a schedule. Like, my kids do love the security, if you will, of knowing, ‘OK, after I take a bath, I know it’s time to get in my pajamas and lay in bed and watch TV with my mommy.’ It works for me and my family."

However, this judgment isn’t the only challenge Khloe has faced. She’s also spoken honestly about how she had a hard time welcoming Tatum via surrogate and how she initially struggled to connect with him.

"I do think it was a storm of either traumas or emotions,” Khloe recalled on a February episode of The Kardashians, referencing Tristan fathering a child with another woman months before Tatum was born. "I mean, I knew he was my son and I loved him and I took care of him, but I just did not have that instinctual feeling that I had with True instantly."

However, she knew she would eventually develop that deeply strong bond they have today.

"I didn’t think Tatum was gonna be 5 years old, and I would have no attachment to him," she clarified. “I never thought that at all. I simply was really mad at myself. Those feelings are not about Tatum. He is the best, sweetest, most loving boy. It was the situation and everything that I went through, and I was more mad at myself that I couldn’t get over it faster."

Khloe has also opened up about continuing to co-parent with Tristan after they split for good in 2021 following his cheating scandals.

"True thinks me and Tristan are married," she said on a March episode of The Kardashians. “It is the right thing to do, in my opinion—get married, have kids. That’s what I wanna teach her.”

And while Khloe, who never tied the knot with the Cleveland Cavaliers player, has gotten some pressure from her siblings to re-enter the dating scene, she’s perfectly happy just being at home with Tatum and True.

"Because I genuinely don’t want to right now, I’m not dating," she said on a January episode of Khloé in Wonder Land. "Because my relationship with kids—it’s everything to me. And not that that means—people who are dating when they have kids—anything. But where I am in my life right now, I just really want to nurture this love, and I just want to be as present as I can. I don’t want any distractions right now in my life. If I meet someone in two months, two years, and I fall in love, great. But I’m not actively on the dating scene, searching for someone, and I’m so happy."
