Brave NYPD officer killed in Midtown shooting identified as Didarul Islam — 4-year force veteran with heavily pregnant wife

The brave NYPD officer who was shot and killed by a deranged gunman inside a Midtown skyscraper Monday was identified as a nearly four-year veteran of the force — and he was about to have a baby, authorities and sources said.

Didarul Islam, 36, was married and his wife was eight-months pregnant when he was fatally shot by 27-year-old Shane Tamura inside 345 Park Avenue, high-ranking law enforcement sources said. It was unclear if the couple had other children.

Islam had been on the force since December 2021 and worked out of a Bronx precinct.

He was off-duty Monday working as security for Rudin Management Company in the building, but was in NYPD uniform, sources said.

Four other civilians were fatally shot in the bloodbath and several more were injured.

Tamura barricaded himself inside the skyscraper and was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor, sources said.
