“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling’s $150 million superyacht, which has dominated Marina del Rey for the last week, isn’t docked for a luxurious vacation.
Rowling’s superyacht comes complete with a circular pool on the deck’s second floor, seen in photos first revealed by The Post. The yacht’s name, Samsara, covered by a white tarp, sits directly underneath the jacuzzi deck.
Rowling keeps the name covered in order to maintain a low profile, according to reports.
The mansion on the water is allegedly docked for repairs, maintenance and to take on provisions, an anonymous source at the marina told The Post. It will undergo painting and have its teak decks replaced.
“It’s the only place to get real privacy. Private jets are more about convenience. But these ships can travel wherever they want out of view from anyone so the owners have incredible privacy,” the source said.
He also revealed that Rowling is not on board, and that the ship is set to depart on September 15.
The boat was spotted by an Instagram couple called twogirls.oneboat, with several users in the comments confirming that the yacht belonged to the 61-year-old author.
“Absolutely JK Rowling’s boat…It was here last May too and as soon as it arrived the crew quickly covered up the name and then it disappeared off AIS, I suspect bc of her outspoken activism,” one user commented.
The “Harry Potter” author’s Samsara megayacht spans a whopping 292 feet and is estimated to be around $150 million. It was built in 2015 by Oceanco and was called Infinity by its first owner, Harbor Freight Tools CEO Eric Smidt.
He sold the yacht to Australian billionaire Brett Blundy in 2022, who then sold it to Rowling in 2023, who then dubbed the boat Samsara.
The boat can accommodate upwards of 12 guests along with 26 crew members, with amenities such as a circular swimming pool, a movie theater and a “tranquil beach club,” according to SuperYachtFan.com.
Rowling previously sparked controversy from her vessel back in 2025, when she shared a selfie of her smoking a cigar on the boat after the US Supreme Court voted that the legal definition of a woman was based on biological sex.
The 61-year-old’s “Harry Potter” books are the highest-selling novel series of all time, with her net worth estimated to be around $1.2 billion according to Forbes.
