After a whirlwind month of buildup and a jam-packed week of tire-burning practice, the engines are roaring to life — it’s officially Race Week for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The legendary "Month of May" wraps up with a bang this Sunday as the Brickyard prepares to host its crown jewel once again. All eyes are on Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, who’s chasing racing immortality by attempting to become the first driver to win three straight Indy 500s.

The catch? He'll have to pull off that historic hat trick starting all the way from the back of the pack — the last row on the grid. Meanwhile, history has already been made up front.

Robert Shwartzman stunned the paddock by clinching pole position, becoming the first rookie to do so since 1983. He’ll lead the field to the green flag with nerves of steel and a whole lot of horsepower.

And it’s not just new blood in the spotlight — this year's field is packed with experience. Eight former Indy 500 champions are suiting up again, collectively bringing 13 wins to the starting grid.

The Sporting News has you covered with everything that you need to know in order to tune into the Indy 500, including on the radio.
