English broadcaster Piers Morgan recently shared his admiration towards Good Morning Britain star Richard Gaisford as he bid an emotional goodbye to ITV. On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Gaisford took to his official X account and shared a video bidding adieu to the network.

According to The Mirror, the journalist presented his final segment on the news programme on Wednesday morning before saying his goodbyes. While Richard Gaisford captioned his post, “That’s it. Era ended @GMB,” Piers Morgan was one among the many well-wishers.

Sharing his tribute to his fellow British journalist, the 60-year-old reposted the video and wrote on X, formerly Twitter:

“One of the all-time great morning TV correspondents, and as you can see from his sign-off, an incredibly classy guy too. Loved working with him for 5yrs. Congrats on an amazing run, Richard.”

Notably, Richard Gaisford had reportedly revealed his plans to leave the network last year in October. Seemingly speaking after the final broadcast from outside Westminster, Gaisford spoke about his work at the network for “nearly 26 years”. In the video, he also thanked his wife for the support and said:

“It has been the best job in TV news. It’s been an immense privilege to be doing it, and I’m going to miss it incredibly, as I will the people that I’ve been working with… Big changes for me too, as I look for some new adventures in the coming year. Definitely, definitely this is a time to say thank you to my wife, who has just been amazing, an incredible support throughout this whole period, really couldn’t have done this job, had a lovely family life, and followed the career I wanted without her support.”

The veteran journalist also expressed his gratitude towards viewers for listening to him for “more than a quarter of a century”, as well as giving him some “really constructive and thoughtful and kind” feedback.

Richard Gaisford’s journey at ITV, explored

According to The Sun, Richard was originally Chief Correspondent on ITV network’s former breakfast television show, Good Morning Television (GMTV). He reportedly moved to Good Morning Britain when it began in the year 2014.

The 53-year-old reportedly joined GMTV in February 2000. He became Chief Correspondent six years later, and was the longest to hold the position in the programme’s history. Notably, his exit from ITV comes after Sally Biddulph, who also said her goodbyes to the network last week after 17 years at the broadcaster.

According to Press Gazette, Richard was the first UK broadcast journalist to report live from Basra in Iraq in the year 2003. His work credits also include reporting from the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, reporting from Zimbabwe on the downfall of Robert Mugabe, being in South Africa for the death of Nelson Mandela, and more.

Meanwhile, the programme also thanked the journalist for nearly 30 years of service. On December 24, 2025, Good Morning Britain shared a video message on X and wrote:

“Thank you, Richard, for 26 years of dedication to public service broadcasting. You have been a definitive voice on our screens and will be greatly missed.”
