Fresh reports from Spain have added clarity to the personal dispute that prompted Ilia Topuria to pause his career.
According to investigators close to the case, Topuria and Giorgina Uzcategui entered their marriage with a prenuptial agreement already in place. The two have been separated for months and are currently navigating divorce proceedings that have stalled over financial terms.
Both sides are said to be unable to reach a common ground on economic arrangements. According to a report by El Mundo, Uzcategui continues to live in the family home with their daughter, largely due to the absence of another residence in Spain and the fact that her family network is based in the United States and Venezuela.
Legal representatives on her side have confirmed that no further public statements will be made as the judicial process unfolds. Topuria has strongly denied allegations of domestic abuse and maintains that his position is supported by extensive documentation.

Topuria announced in December that he would step away from competition due to the mounting pressure tied to the legal process. The UFC has responded by keeping him as the reigning champion while moving the lightweight division forward.
An interim title fight between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett is scheduled for UFC 324 on Jan. 25, 2026. Topuria has informed the UFC that he will not compete in the first quarter of 2026 and is targeting a potential return later in the spring.
He claimed the lightweight title with a first-round knockout win against Charles Oliveira. Following the win, Topuria has been vocal about chasing three-division championship status with a potential fight against Islam Makhachev.
