3 Directions for AEW star Mercedes Mone after her latest title loss

Mercedes Mone has not been coping well since failing to unseat Kris Statlander for the AEW Women's World Title at Full Gear 2025. After losing her ROH Women's World Television Championship to Red Velvet at ROH Final Battle, The CEO began to show visible signs of frustration and anger over her ever-expanding title collection being slashed by one.

Mercedes bounced back to winning ways subsequently, retaining her TBS Title against Leila Grey on Collision and then retaining three of her belts- the RevPro Undisputed British Women's Title, the DW Women's Title, and the EWA Women's Title, against Rhio at RevPro Uprising. However, on this Saturday's edition of Collision: Holiday Bash, Mone lost the RevPro Women's Championship in an open challenge to Alex Windsor in a massive, and unanticipated, upset.

The erstwhile Sasha Banks is likely feeling desperate after her recent loss, and her character arc could take several interesting directions from here. Let us consider three of those.

Shocking title change taped for last SmackDown - Watch Now!

#1. Mercedes Mone and Athena will go for the AEW Women's Tag Titles but fail to win

After crashing Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron's AEW Women's Tag Team Championship victory celebration and antagonizing the duo as well as The Timeless Love Bombs, Mercedes Mone teamed up with Athena and The Mega Problems on Dynamite: Holiday Bash to take on Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, and The Babes of Wrath in a multi-person tag bout. The match ended in an unexpected fashion, with Mercedes pinning Willow after the latter ate an O-Face from Athena.

Afterwards, The Fallen Goddess and The Boss issued a challenge to Nightingale and Cameron to put their belts on the line against them at AEW Worlds End. After losing her RevPro British Women's Title to Alex Windsor, Mercedes will likely be very driven to replenish her belt collection by adding the Women's Tag Team Championships. However, Tony Khan should legitimize The Babes of Wrath at the PPV by having them retain against The Fallen Goddess and "Ultimo" Mone.

#2. Mercedes Mone could lose her independent titles in the course of 2026

Since her All Elite Wrestling debut last year, Mercedes Mone has been on a tear, competing not only in AEW but even making appearances in promotions that the Tony Khan-led company regularly partners with, including NJPW, CMLL, RevPro, not to mention other independent brands like EWA, PTW, BODYSLAM Pro Wrestling, and so on.

Mone has acquired a number of championships across all these promotions over the past two years - however, as of late, she has also lost a couple of them. Interestingly, both Toni Storm and Kris Statlander- two women who actually defeated Mercedes in singles action in All Elite Wrestling- have both argued that the former WWE superstar hides her insecurity over not being the AEW Women's World Champion behind her belt collection. Stat, in fact, even accused Mercedes of not having the focus to beat her, and she turned out to be right.

To properly expose, narratively speaking, Mone's insecurity over not winning the big one in All Elite Wrestling, she could be booked to slowly lose her indie titles one by one throughout the early half of 2026- this, in turn, would likely push her character further over the edge.

#3. Willow Nightingale could unseat Mercedes Mone at AEW Dynasty

Mercedes Mone's journey in All Elite Wrestling began with her rivalry with Willow Nightingale last year. The CEO of Professional Wrestling defeated The Babe with The Powerbomb in her very first match in the company at Double or Nothing 2024 to become the TBS Champion. She has held on to the belt since then, having successfully defended it against many of AEW's top names and budding performers.

Mercedes is around a month away from reaching the 600-day milestone as TBS Champion. Now that her rivalry with Willow has been rekindled, it would be fitting to have the latter be the one to dethrone Mone for the title. If The Babes of Wrath lose their Women's Tag Titles by then, Nightingale could topple Mercedes as TBS Champion next year at AEW Dynasty.

If Tony Khan books the TBS Title to be the last belt she loses, Mone could, as a consequence, reach the peak of her desperation and finally go after the Women's World Championship with complete focus.
