Alexander Zverev took pride in Germany’s win over Argentina in the Davis Cup quarterfinals, saying that his voice felt like it does the night after partying at a club. The German has been more excited than ever to represent his country in the new format for the first time.

Coming off a mixed season, the German had the chance to represent his country at the Davis Cup in Bologna, Italy. He and his team had the ultimate test against the Argentine team in the quarterfinals. Tomas Martin Etcheverry from the latter team gave an edge after his victory over German Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets.

However, the German squad was not ready to back down. Although Francisco Cerúndolo entered the clash against Alexander Zverev with a head-to-head lead, he couldn’t make his mark, as Zverev secured the win and forced a deciding doubles rubber. Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz then put the final nail in the coffin, helping Germany advance to the semifinals.

Following the set of thrillers, when asked why Zverev's voice sounded different at night, the World No.3 revealed that the change was because he shouted and cheered for his teammates at the top of his lungs.

"Yeah, I have no voice. I have no voice anymore. It's like after I went partying at a nightclub. It's like this." (via press conference)

He also denied being concerned about his health and later spoke about how Germany achieved the impossible despite having few or no breakpoints.

Alexander Zverev had a heartbreaking exit from the ATP Finals, losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final group stage match and missing his chance to qualify for the semifinals.

Alexander Zverev began his season with a final exit from the Australian Open and faced similar heartbreaks throughout the season. Nevertheless, he reached a major milestone by achieving his 500th career win in the third round of the Canadian Open.

His thriller against Cerundolo at the Davis Cup was instrumental in Germany's qualification to the semifinals. Expressing pride in playing his 'best tennis' against a player whom he thought he couldn't break, Zverev said.

"Cerundolo is someone that is very difficult for me. I felt like I played a very good first set. Poor moments in the second, played my best tennis, so. Was super happy with the win. Getting Germany back in the tie, then the doubles guys somehow managing to win, it was very important," he said. (post-match press conference)

Zverev won the Bavarian Open title this year, that too, on his birthday on April 20.
