Former Australian swimming sensation Ariarne Titmus recently opened up about her decision to retire from competitive swimming. The 25-year-old swimmer announced her retirement in an emotional post on her Instagram profile, posted on October 16.
The Instagram page of Stellar magazine shared a clip of their upcoming interview with the Australian swimmer. In the video excerpt, Titmus discusses the consequences of her retirement.
Ariarne Titmus revealed further in the video excerpt why she decided to retire at the peak of her career. In her words,
"I was at the top of my game, still only 25, and I was worried that people weren't going to understand why..."When Ariarne Titmus announced her retirement on October 16, she wrote about the achievements she had accomplished throughout her career. The Australian swimming sensation wrote in her Instagram post,
"Dear seven year old Ariarne, Today you retire from competitive swimming. 18 years you spent in the pool competing. 10 of those representing your country. You went to two Olympic Games and even better, you won!! The dreams you had.. they all came true. The friends you’ve made.. they’re for life. You achieved more than you ever thought you were capable of and you should be so proud."Ariarne Titmus had last participated at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Australian swimmer had won a total of four medals at the quadrennial event, including two gold medals in women's 400m freestyle and the women's 4x200m freestyle relay event.

“My outlook on the Olympics and how I’m feeling post has definitely changed in the last three years. I know that I’m not just doing it for myself . I’m doing it for the country and for people who support us and want us to do well. What makes me proud is the joy and happiness I’ve been able to bring to others, not just what I’ve felt personally. These are the thoughts that have come to me over the past few months as I’ve been separated from that environment,” Ariarne Titmus shared.Ariarne Titmus made her Olympic debut at the quadrennial event held in Tokyo in 2021, delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Australian swimmer won a total of four gold medals, three silver medals, and a bronze medal in her two appearances.
