Adou Thiero scored four points, including a dunk in the final minute as the Lakers won the Bucks 119-95. His debut witnessed drama between his teammates and crew chief Pat Fraher over the game ball. They tried to secure the game ball to present to Thiero after he scored his first league points.

Teammate Jarred Vanderbilt held on to the game ball at the end of the game while exchanging postgame greetings. He was relieved of the ball by crew chief Fraher, despite pleas from himself and fellow teammates, who believed that the ball belonged to the Bucks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo intervened. He got the ball from the Bucks’ team attendant, who had earlier received it from Fraher, and gave it to Lakers’ star Luka Doncic for Thiero.

Adou Thiero’s father Almamy Thiero appreciated Giannis Antetokounmpo for getting his son the game ball on his league debut. He tweeted a two-word response on X on Saturday.

“Thanks Giannis.”

The Lakers’ rookie also appreciated the gesture. He spoke to the media shortly after the game, where he thanked his teammates.

"At first I didn't even realize it was all for me, but I'm very thankful for this team and I think that shows how connected we are and how much we want each other to succeed as a team.”

Thiero was cleared to play after being ruled out early on due to the knee surgery he had during his last collegiate season. His recovery ruled him out for training camp and preseason and he was upgraded to available during Friday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans but didn’t come on.
