Three-time kickboxing World Champion Marat Grigorian of Armenia loves playing the villain and relishes opportunities to silence hostile crowds.
The 34-year-old veteran knows he won’t be a popular figure when he faces Japan’s own Rukiya Anpo on Nov. 16 at ONE 173 in Tokyo.
Entering enemy territory may be a handicap for most, but Grigorian simply feeds off that energy. Quite frankly, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Hemmers Gym affiliate shared his mindset in a Sportskeeda MMA exclusive:

“Japan brings the energy. I love fighting in Japan. The crowd is special. I’m ready to put on a show, a real fight. This makes me more fired up because I have a chance to upset the local star. So I cannot wait.”Another reason why Grigorian doesn’t feel so fazed is his affinity for the host country. The decorated striker has competed in Japan many times and cherishes the unique atmosphere that its people create.
However, Grigorian also made it clear that he’s coming in to decimate Anpo in front of his hometown fans.
The ONE newcomer dismissed the 34-year-old legend as “one-dimensional” in the lead-up to the fight – something that Grigorian hasn’t forgotten.
Marat Grigorian looking forward to silencing Rukiya Anpo
Marat Grigorian usually enters his fights with a business-like approach, but ONE 173 sets a different tone.
After all, Rukiya Anpo made it personal when he publicly disrespected his credentials and skills.
The Armenian striker vowed that heads will roll once the bell rings:
"I'm pumped. Big stage, big fight - that's what I live for. This is where I shine. I cannot wait to fight in Tokyo and make a statement. This is my chance to shut this guy up," Grigorian told Sportskeeda MMA.Witness this featherweight war in Tokyo by purchasing the ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri PPV through this link.
