The son of a WWE Hall of Famer, who recently made waves during his wrestling debut, has now suffered a notable setback.
The star in question is Steven Borden Jr., son of AEW legend and WWE Hall of Famer Sting. Borden burst onto the scene in a non-televised match during the taping of AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming earlier this month, winning his first professional singles match against Kiran Grey. Before that, the rising star teamed with JD Drake for a nonprofessional debut in an exhibition tag match against Darby Allin and Killer Cross at an event hosted by Allin in New York.
It seems Borden competed in his third career match last night at a DEFY event, where he ran it back with Kiran Grey, but this time the star was unable to pick up the win. That said, fans were impressed with the Icon's son's showing, and it seems he has a bright future ahead.
WWE Hall of Famer's son is reportedly closing in on an AEW contract
Earlier this month, Fightful Select had reported that Sting's son, Steven Borden Jr., is closing in on an AEW contract. The report surfaced after Borden's impressive showing against Kiran Grey in that dark match during the taping of Dynamite: Winter is Coming. Speaking to Fightful, AEW's president praised the WWE legend's son following his match, stating:
“I thought he was excellent. He’s doing a great job. Very exciting in my opinion,” Khan said. Moreover, a source within the Jacksonville-based promotion stated that he may already have an AEW contract.
“He’s expected to be under AEW contract before long if he’s not already,” the source said. [H/T RSN]Currently, Borden does not hold an official All Elite Wrestling contract. That said, his reputation is building, and one can expect him to join Tony Khan's promotion sooner rather than later. Time will tell if Borden Jr. can live up to his father's legacy.
