Both men had to sleep on missed birdie chances on the 18th before play was suspended due to darkness. Each finished 72 holes with a 21-under 259, one shot better than Collin Morikawa after his 61 in the final round.
Scheffler won the Travelers in a playoff two years ago, beating Tom Kim with a par on the first hole. He has a 2-2 record in playoffs, while Hovland won his lone playoff at the Memorial in 2023, beating Denny McCarthy.
