It's been a memorable season for Petaluma baseball. The Trojans went 19-6 against a strong regular season schedule and got bumped up to the CIF-North Coast Section's top division as the seventh seed. In round one of the NCS playoffs, they stayed hot, getting off to a fast start and never looking back in a 5-1 victory over No. 10 Castro Valley.
However, Petaluma will be thrown into the fire on Friday against No. 2 De La Salle – a team that is currently 23-4 and has been ranked top-10 in the state (and top-50 in the country) more often than not in recent years.

That gives the Trojans an underdog shot at what could be one of the biggest victories in recent program history. And for the Spartans, a home game against a team they expect to beat with their season on the line.
De La Salle opened the season with losses to St. Mary's (Stockton) and EBAL foe Granada, the top seed in the Division 1 bracket, which beat De La Salle by four runs for the second time on May 15 in the conference championship. The Spartans would likely get a third crack at Granada for all the marbles with a win over Petaluma followed by another against either No. 3 Foothill (Pleasanton) or No. 6 Benicia.
