How to watch Arcadia vs. Aliso Niguel in CIF-Southern Section (California) high school baseball playoffs

Arcadia and Aliso Niguel have both put together some excellent high school baseball teams in recent memory.

Coincidentally, both reached a peak in 2018-19 and were ranked among the state's top teams, even achieving national relevance. And both currently have their strongest team yet since then – at least by regular season standards.

One team will take another step towards the limelight on Thursday, and the other will be an early casualty of the gauntlet known as the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 baseball playoffs.

Arcadia is the favorite at 25-3 with a Pacific League title under its belt and home field advantage. The Apaches are currently ranked at least as high as 16th in the state (by Cal-Hi Sports) and had reeled off 11 victories in a row through league play before losing 7-5 to La Mirada in a tuneup game. Despite the letdown, they should be fine in terms of momentum having since beaten another non-league foe, Bonita, 3-0.

Like Arcadia, Aliso Niguel (22-6) has had plenty of momentum throughout the regular season but particularly shined down the stretch. Aliso has won four straight and 11 of its last 12, and the lone loss to Dana Hills was sandwiched between two wins over the Dolphins. While the Wolverines are a clear underdog heading to Arcadia, it's hard to imagine anybody writing them off from coming out with a win.

The victor will face either Mira Costa or Arlington in the second round.
