How to tame Solwyn in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony

Solwyn is one of ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony’s more interesting new creatures. It’s not something you can tame in the wild, similarly to the Gigadesmodus, but it’s so much easier to tame than that. You don’t have to go and complete the whole story first, because this one’s an evolution. Think of it like Eevee in Pokemon, because you need the right creature in your collection first, and then you feed it an item that forces an evolution.

It might be a little on the frustrating side to find what you’re looking for to make a Solwyn in ARK Survival Ascended’s Lost Colony map, but we’re here to help you add this incredible beast to your retinue of monsters and dinosaurs.

How to find a Solwyn in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony

While you can find Solwyn in the wild, this is not how you tame them in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony. You do need to find them, though, because you need to get the Precious Vulpite that you need to create a Solwyn. You can see the locations where Solwyn spawn below.

From there, it’s just a matter of having a Veilwyn companion with you, and interacting with the Solwyn in the correct manner. That’s an important step, and we’ll go over that below.

ARK Survival Ascended Solwyn taming guide

The first step is to get the Precious Vulpite. To do that in ARK Survival Ascended’s Lost Colony map, you need to find (or spawn in) a Solwyn in the wild. Then, with a Veilwyn out, set it to be a Companion. This will put a Curiosity Meter over the Veilwyn. Just perform the emote that shows up over the Solwyn’s head until the meter fills up. You’ll receive the Precious Vulpite this way. Just interact with the Solwyn, and you’ll get the Vulpite.

However, this does appear to have a time frame on it. I kept doing things incorrectly and eventually the Curiosity meter went away, and I had to find (or spawn in) another Solwyn. If you want to spawn one in to make this faster, use the following command code:

• cheat gmsummon "AngelFox_Character_BP_C" 60

The next step is the most frustrating, and that’s to get the Adventure Buff to 100%. If you go into your Veilwyn’s inventory, you’ll see the Adventure! Buff. This buff will increase as you kill enemies with your Veilwyn in Companion mode.

It appears that Zombies and Revenants are the best picks to kill. Once the Adventure! buff is at 100%, put the Precious Vulpite in your Veilwyn’s inventory, right click, and select Consume. Now, you have a Solwyn in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony. If you want to saddle it and ride it, you need to have the following reagents to make the Solwyn Saddle:

• Crystal x120
• Metal Ingot x50
• Fiber x225
• Obsidian x80

What’s the console command to spawn a Solwyn in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony?

While you can’t normally just tame a Solwyn in the wild in ARK Survival Ascended, you can summon a tame one. Below are the necessary codes to summon either a tame Solwyn, or a wild one, if you want to get your Precious Vulpite.

• Tame: cheat gmsummon "AngelFox_Character_BP_C" 60 (Level 150)
• Wild: cheat SpawnDino "Blueprint'/Game/LostColony/Dinos/AngelFox/AngelFox_Character_BP.AngelFox_Character_BP'" 500 0 0 150

All Solwyn commands and abilities

Solwyn has a pretty solid amount of damage it can deal, and it moves fast while mounting it, making it one of the ideal traveling companions in ARK Survival Ascended’s Lost Colony map. It also has some exceptional abilities to take advantage of. If you press RMB it casts Cone of Frost, which blasts ice out in a cone in front of it. It deals damage and increases the amount of damage those enemies take from normal attacks.

Ice Bridge is activated with the C key, and creates ice bridges you can ride/run across. They can be placed anywhere in front of the Solwyn, allowing you to run across the sky, to get to out of the way places. It only stays in place for a brief period though, so make the most of it and get running!

Glacial Endurance heals you and the Solwyn for a good amount of health over time. You can also use it in combat, so that’s another helpful thing about it. Finally, there’s Glacial Power, which makes its next attack deal extra damage, and deals increased damage to Frosted enemies.

It also has Glacial Swiftness, which gives a temporary speed boost. Finally, if you use the Hideout option in its menu, it essentially has its own Cryopod. You can pull it back from your inventory, and it suffers no Cryosickness.

Control+C lets you swap between its various powers, making it easy to navigate the suite of powers the Solwyn has in ARK Survival Ascended. By cycling through them, you can activate multiple powers at once, making the Solwyn a real powerhouse. As a final note, you can breed Solwyn together, but it always seems to breed a Veilwyn.
