Gloons are one of the new tameable creatures in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony. They’re a tiny, odd creature with massive eyes that can seemingly mind control creatures using the Mesmerize ability. While in the wild, they spawn a legion of Revenants that roam close by and protect it from any harm. A tamed Gloon will sit on your shoulder when equipped, but unlike the Aureliax, they're usually hostile.
Some may find the creature adorable, while others may say the opposite. However, regardless of what you think, taming one can be handy across the snowy mountains of Arat Prime. This guide will teach you everything you need to know about taming a Gloon in ARK Survival Ascended.
How to find a Gloon in ARK Survival Ascended
Keep a lookout for floating spotlights around Elemental Veins (Image via Studio Wildcard)To find a Gloon in ARK Survival Ascended, you’ll need to venture across the snowy landscape of Arat Prime. They usually spawn around Elemental Veins, and despite their small size, they’re easy to spot due to their massive glowing eyes.
They’ll be floating around, emitting a beam of light from their eyes, and will be visible from a distance. Another thing to watch out for is that they’ll also have a Revenant mob following it around due to its ability. The creature itself is weak, so it brings along its own personal army.
ARK Survival Ascended Gloon taming guide
Shoot the eyes, not the body (Image via Studio Wildcard)Taming a Gloon in ARK Survival Ascended is where things will get tricky. If you approach it normally, it will see you and unleash its minions on you and go invisible, making it much harder to track down amidst the chaos. However, if you crouch and approach the group, the Gloon won’t detect you.
You’ll want to defeat the minions first to make the capture a little easier, but remain crouched while doing so. Since you can’t dodge, bring better armor to tank hits from enemies. Once you clear the area, it’s time to tame the Gloon.
Use a ranged weapon to shoot its eyes. Each shot will bring it down a little closer to the ground. You’ll also notice that its eyes will get smaller in size until it lands. Once it does touch the ground, feed it Kibble to complete the taming process.
Take out the revenant army roaming around the Gloon (Image via Studio Wildcard)Here are some things to keep in mind while taming the Gloon:
- Don’t shoot the Gloon’s body, or it will become aggressive.
- Shooting the Gloon’s eyes will not alert the minions.
- Killing minions while crouched will not alert the Gloon.
- You can find multiple Gloons floating close by.
But how will you know it’s time to feed the Gloon? An easy way is to look out for the light. Keep shooting the eyes until the light goes out, even if the Gloon is on the ground. Once it’s unable to see, you can swoop in as its saviour by feeding it Kibble, and the creature will be at your eternal service.
If you do shoot a Gloon’s body, it will turn hostile and send out its minions to attack you. During this time, it will try to go invisible and run away. You can keep shooting its eye and try to tame it, but the window will be much smaller, and the Revenants can deal a lot of damage to you.
What's the console command to spawn Gloon in ARK Survival Ascended?
If your server or session is cheat code-enabled, a Gloon can be spawned with its DinoID in ARK Survival Ascended. Here’s the console command to summon the creature:

A Gloon using Mesmerize (Image via Studio Wildcard)In attack mode, the Gloon will hop on your arm and use its eyes as an Eyebeam. It’s the same kind that the creature uses against you after detection during the taming process. Keeping the beam active for a short duration will increase its damage.
However, the most useful ability of a Gloon is Mesmerize. It’s another laser beam, but instead of damaging the creature, it will cause confusion and eventually de-aggro the enemy. It may come in handy while you’re trying to tame other dinos. Note that you need to reach 100% Mesmerize to have the other creature stop attacking. Simply holding the beam for a bit will do the trick.
