Assetto Corsa Rally is here, and gamers are diving into the high-octane rally simulator by the iconic franchise. While the rally and Time Attack mode are great to test your mettle, the free driving mode is great if you love driving through the stunning landscape of Wales and Alsace like me.

Here's how you can enable free driving mode in Assetto Corsa Rally.

Assetto Corsa Rally offers an array of unique game modes that let racers engage in the high-octane stages of Alsace and Wales. While the rally mode is great for trying your driving skills, sometimes you just want to play some music and cruise down these stunning roads. With a few tweaks, you can use freeroam or free driving mode within Free Practice.

Here's how you can freeroam or use free driving mode in Assetto Corsa Rally:

  1. Open Assetto Corsa Rally
  2. Head to the Race tab
  3. Select Free Practice
  4. Open the Session settings tab and look for the Free Drive slider
  5. Turn the Free Drive slider to 'On'
  6. Head back and click 'Start Session' to launch Assetto Corsa Rally in freeroam mode

Once you start the session, you will notice that your Co-Driver is missing and the timer has been removed. You can now explore the stage in peace without worrying about penalties or being reset on the track for going the other way.

Apart from the default settings, you can adjust additional settings to enhance your freeroam experience. If you wish to explore the stages but keep things realistic, you can enable the 'Car damage' toggle to simulate real impact and effects.

Additionally, enabling the 'Hardcore Mode' will lock all settings to the most realistic and challenging mode. While it defeats the purpose of free driving, it is great if you wish to challenge yourself to complete the stages without worrying about the timer or a Co-Driver.

Apart from being a great way to enjoy the stunning visuals, the free driving mode is great for players who want to memorise the track and its nuances. It is also a great way to try out all the cars in Assetto Corsa Rally and get used to their individual handling, quirks, and behavior.
