The River Master in Where Winds Meet is a new campaign boss added to the game with the version 1.1 update. He is a strong enemy with two phases, where you will need to fight a giant fish during the first stage, and then the River Master, Feng Yi, himself during the second stage. This boss can be quite challenging as he features a few gimmicks that you might be unfamiliar with.

Tips and tricks to defeat the River Master in Where Winds Meet

You will encounter the River Master during the Heavenfall campaign quest in Where Winds Meet. He is quite a tough boss, and can be extremely challenging as he does a lot of damage to you, and can stun you and leave you vulnerable. You will come face-to-face with him at the very end of the Heavenfall campaign quest and must defeat him to progress.

Best build

Any build can work well against the River Master boss, but given that the first phase of the battle is against his giant fish, the Dragon King. This creature will mostly stay away, engaging you with ranged attacks and sometimes with its body.

If you are using the Strategic Sword, make sure to set it up for the Bleed/ Poison build in Where Winds Meet, which will allow you to deal damage-over-time on the fish, slowly chipping down its HP.

How to defeat the River Master

Here is a detailed guide on how you can defeat the River Master in Where Winds Meet:

Phase 1: Dragon King

  • Parry the projectiles that it shoots at you, though keep in mind that you cannot damage its Qi.
  • Make sure to jump and avoid the three waves that will crash on the platform when it dives into the water.
  • The Dragon King boss will occasionally charge before unleashing a big ball of water at you. Parry this to deal damage to its Qi and leave it stunned for a while. Deflecting this twice will deplete the bar completely and allow you to perform a finisher.
  • Jump to avoid the water cannon move. If you get hit once, there is an extremely low chance that you will be able to dodge it anymore.

  • The River Master's attacks are slow, yet it can hit hard. Parrying is the key, but you can add in a few strikes of your own in between each hit.
  • You can parry the sword waves that the River Master will shoot at you.
  • When the River Master in Where Winds Meet mounts the Dragon King, make sure to dodge the fish's attacks. At the very end, he will jump, slamming his sword. You will need to dodge this.

Given that he is a campaign boss in Where Winds Meet, you will be able to rechallenge him once you complete the battle and the quest.
