When New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel takes the field for Super Bowl LX versus the Seattle Seahawks, he has an opportunity to make history.
If Vrabel and the Pats emerge victorious, the New England head coach will be the first person in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with the same team as both a player and a coach.
Of course, Vrabel won three Super Bowls during the Patriots' dynasty that was led by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. This is his first opportunity to win one as the head coach of New England in what is his first season on the job.
Gary Kubiak managed to make his way to the Super Bowl as a player and a coach for the same team, but he was never able to win the Big Game as a player.
Vrabel would be the fifth coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl as a player and a coach. Tom Flores, Mike Ditka, Tony Dungy and Doug Pederson all accomplished that feat with different teams.
Another potential accomplishment for Vrabel is joining an exclusive club of head coaches who have won a Super Bowl in their first season at the helm of a team.
That list includes four coaches, including Kubiak, Jon Gruden, George Seifert and Don McCafferty.
Vrabel has widely been considered one of the better coaches in the NFL dating back to his days with the Tennessee Titans.
Now, he has an opportunity to cement himself in the head-coaching annuls with a win over the Seahawks on Sunday.
