Drake Maye gets emotional reflecting on Mike Vrabel, Patriots season after Super Bowl loss

1 hour ago 3

The New England Patriots' first season under coach Mike Vrabel was a dream season by every definition of the term, but that didn't make Sunday's 29-13 Super Bowl 60 loss any easier for them to digest.

After entering with confidence that they could pull off the upset and win their first championship in the post-Tom Brady era, the Patriots were bullied by the Seahawks' defense for the first three quarters and didn't have enough in the tank to complete what would have been a monstrous comeback.

After the game, QB Drake Maye became emotional as he reflected on a breakout season under Vrabel that came up just short of a championship.

Here's a look at what Maye had to say and his final numbers from 2025.

SEAHAWKS WIN SUPER BOWL 60:

What did Drake Maye say?

Maye choked up as he talked about Vrabel after Sunday's Super Bowl 60 defeat.

"He's the reason why we're here," Maye said. "He's always the same, and...I look forward to my relationship with him for a long time. He's a great person and a hell of a football coach."

Maye had to pause mid-sentence as he talked about Vrabel, who guided a Patriots team coming off a four-win season to 13 wins and a trip to the Super Bowl.

"He was the Coach of the Year for a reason, somebody that we all love playing for," Maye added, crediting Vrabel with giving the Patriots an "identity" and a reason to believe throughout the season.

While no team is ever guaranteed to return to the Super Bowl, the Patriots appear to have the two most important pieces in place between their quarterback and head coach. If Maye's comments on Sunday are any indication, the two are in lockstep as they enter their second season together.
