Now this is a race amongst three-year-olds we actually want to see.
On Saturday, May 3, the 151st annual Kentucky Derby goes down at Louisville’s Churchill Downs and many of the biggest thoroughbreds in the game — who all happen to be three-years-old — will be there.
Top contenders set to toe the starting line on the famed 1.25-mile track this year include 3-1 favorite Journalism, 5-1 Sovereignty and 6-1 Sandman.
They’ll be joined by 12-1 Rodriguez and 20-1 Citizen Bull. Both racers belong to controversial trainer Bob Baffert, who returns to the Derby for the first time in three years. He was suspended after it was made public that his horse, 2021 winner Medina Spirit, tested positive for the steroid betamethasone.
“It’s nice to be back here and back at the old barn,” Baffert said at his first Churchill Downs appearance since 2021. “Horses all shipped well. They look great out there. The track’s in good shape.”
