How long is Angel Reese out? Back injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Sky star

7 hours ago 3

When available, Chicago Sky All-Star Angel Reese has been one of the WNBA's best players in 2025. As of late, however, Reese's availability has taken a hit due to lingering injury woes.

After appearing in each of Chicago's first 21 games, Reese has been limited to just two games since the All-Star break. The Sky have sputtered in her absence, and the season has gotten away from them.

Reese, 23, is the only WNBA player to average a double-double in 2025, as she's putting up 14.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. The Sky have had limited success without the two-time All-Star in the lineup.

While the playoffs may be out of question, it is apparent that Chicago plays its best basketball with Reese in the lineup. Here's what to know about her injury and how much longer it will keep her out of the lineup.

What is Angel Reese's injury?

Reese is dealing with an undisclosed back injury.

She saw 30 minutes of action in Chicago's first game after the All-Star break before missing the next two games. She returned to the lineup to record 22 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists in a loss to the Mystics on Tuesday, July 29, but was then scratched from the lineup for the next game on Friday, Aug. 1, and has not played since.

Reese's back "tightened up" following the loss to the Mystics, per head coach Tyler Marsh. She was listed as out with a back injury for Chicago's next games and then battled illness on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Update on Angel Reese per Coach Marsh:

Reese was not present at today’s shootaround due to an illness and her absence was not related to her back injury.

How long will Angel Reese be out?

Reese is considered day-to-day, according to the team.

With Chicago's lack of success this season, there is little sense of urgency for the team to rush the return of its young star and risk further injury or damage to her back. The Sky could continue to err on the side of caution concerning Reese's return timeline.
