Reaching max level in Path of Exile 2 is one of the endgame goals. However, it’s a feat that can be challenging to achieve, especially if you’re somewhat new to the game. Each level up grants you a skill point, which you can spend on the passive tree to improve your character. Additionally, you also gain the ability to equip higher-level gear, providing better stat boosts.

This guide will help you figure out an estimate of how long it may take for you to reach level 100 in Path of Exile 2, and whether it’s worth doing.

What’s the average time it takes to reach max level in Path of Exile 2

Answering this question isn’t as easy, as there are many factors to consider. A seasoned player can max out their character in around a week of each League, while newbies can struggle the entire four-month cycle and still can’t reach level 100. Others who play casually can reach max level in around a month or two.

It’s been a week since the release of Poe2 Fate of the Vaal League, and currently, there are only 14 players at max level. Several others are at 99, which should give you an idea of how challenging the task can be.

On average, the campaign completion takes around 24 hours, more if you’re doing every side quest. And by the end, your character will be around level 60. After that, your map-clearing ability will determine how quickly you can level up.

My Druid is level 89, but I also left out many side quests, so expect to reach around level 70-80 after a week and 100 in about a month and a half of regular high-tier mapping, considering there are no bumps along the way.

Several factors also affect your leveling progress. Some of them are:

  • Area/Enemy level: The area and enemy level are major factors affecting your leveling process. Defeating enemies in higher-level areas grants more EXP and much faster leveling progress, but it’s not always the best method. A lack of damage can result in slower kills, ultimately slowing your progress.
  • Character death: As you progress, Path of Exile 2 also inflicts an EXP penalty upon death. It’s not a mechanic throughout the campaign, but as soon as you reach the endgame, you’ll want to avoid dying too much. While we don’t have the exact penalty numbers, it’s the main reason why many are unable to reach level 100.
  • Party play: In Path of Exile 2, being in a party will scale the monster's HP, making it more challenging. However, if your team members are higher-level, they can defeat everyone much faster, resulting in more EXP gain per hour despite the scaling penalty. It’s the reason why a lot of people play with a stacked team.

Note: EXP penalty cannot level your character down. You will stop losing EXP at 0% of your current level.

If you’re min-maxing your character, the answer would be yes; however, you don’t need to. The maximum area level in Path of Exile is around 82, and with a good build, you should be able to complete the most challenging content in the game around the same level.

Apart from skill points, each time you level up, your character gains +12 life, +4 mana, +6 accuracy, and +3 evasion. That’s 1200 HP you can further scale through the passive tree. There’s also 400 mana, which you’ll need to use abilities in most cases.
