Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo generates record tevenue for local businesses

For many vendors at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, March isn't just a busy season; it's the whole season. Nearly 2.7 million people descend on NRG Park each year, and for the small businesses woven through the fairgrounds, those three weeks can make or break an entire year.

Speaking to Houston local station ABC 13, small business owner Candace Harlon discussed her family's BBQ restaurant, which her father started. "He opened up the barbecue place out of an old gas station. It started out from there," Harlon told ABC 13.

She went on to say that the Houston Rodeo accounts for a large portion of their revenue, 80% to be exact. It keeps them semi-retired as well.

"It is 80% of our business, of our revenue. We're like retired now, so this really helps us live the life that we are used to living," She reaffirmed that three weeks at NRG Park is quite literally enough to equal what some do in a year. "In three weeks, you can do what a company does in one year."

It's quite a simple operation as well, with Harlon's restaurant situated on the grounds serving turkey legs, ribs, loaded meat potatoes, chopped brisket sandwiches, and more on NRG Park's grounds.
