The Charlotte Hornets have added a lot of veteran experience through trades this offseason. The organization is looking for different ways to bring new players onto the roster.
They are still going to keep their foundation of young talent. The first move they made this season was trading away LaMelo Ball.
“The Charlotte Hornets are trading star guard LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid and a series of draft picks, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Thursday. In addition to Reid, the Hornets will receive a 2033 unprotected first-round pick and three second-round picks (2029, 2032, 2033). Charlotte also gets first-round pick swaps in 2028, 2029 and 2030," ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk wrote.
They weren’t done with trades at that point, as they also made a deal for veteran Dennis Schroder.
“The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading Dennis Schroder and cash to the Charlotte Hornets for Tre Mann, sources told ESPN on Friday. In Schroder, Charlotte picks up an established veteran at point guard who has history with Hornets president Jeff Peterson and coach Charles Lee from his tenure in Atlanta at the start of his career,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.
It turns out that Charlotte may not be done there, either. Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported that the Hornets have been in trade discussions with the Atlanta Hawks. It is a deal that would send Dorian Finney-Smith to Atlanta and Buddy Hield to Charlotte.
“Among our latest items, Atlanta and Charlotte have held trade talks surrounding Buddy Hield for Dorian Finney-Smith, sources say. It remains unclear whether an agreement will be struck before training camps open,” Fischer posted.
This would be a big addition for Charlotte, as it would pair Kon Knueppel with one of the best shooters in the league, giving the offense multiple options. The Hornets are not going to slow down on the trade front.
Hield has made $122 million throughout his career. He has already played with one of the best shooters in the game in Steph Curry, so playing alongside Knueppel in the lineup would give him another elite shooter to work with.
