Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels didn’t play in the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, but he registered his presence with his teammates. Prior to kickoff, Daniels had a moment with wide receiver Deebo Samuel and his son. Notably, the quarterback picked up Samuel’s son for a brief moment, albeit awkwardly, earning a reprimand from his mom.

Daniels’ mom, Regina Jackson, told him as he picked up his teammate’s son:

“Why are you holding him like that, like the Lion King?”

Jayden Daniels’ injury and Washington’s struggels this season

The Commanders are out of playoff contention this season, dropping to 4-11 after Saturday’s loss. It has been nothing short of disappointing for the Commanders and Jayden Daniels this season, crashing all the hopes they came into the season with.

The team was only a win shy of making the 2024 Super Bowl, showing how great their fall has been this campaign. A big factor in Washington’s fall from grace is Daniel’s health this season. The second-year quarterback has only played in seven games this season, with his campaign punctuated by injuries.

He was officially shut down for the season ahead of the team’s loss to the Eagles on Saturday. For many, it was a decision long overdue.

When Jayden Daniels had dislocated his elbow in Week 9, it looked like he was out for the rest of the season. It turned out not to be a season-ending injury, as he returned in Week 14. In hindsight, Dan Quinn may be ruing that decision, with the quarterback aggravating his injury in his first game back.

With just three games to the end of their campaign, Quinn finally made the call, resting the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year. Marcus Mariota started for the Commanders on Saturday, completing seven of 14 passes for 95 yards.

Josh Johnson also earned some snaps, as he completed four of nine throws for 43 yards.
