Heat predicted to outbid Cavaliers, Nuggets for $305M future Hall of Famer, veteran 6-time All-Star

The Miami Heat are coming off a summer in which they completed an absolute blockbuster trade to land superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Heat now have championship aspirations after the move and still have some room to add to their roster.

Miami has been linked to several players for its final roster spots, with DeMar DeRozan emerging as one of the names the Heat have interest in.

“As ESPN's Shams Charania reported recently, DeRozan has generated interest from the Heat, Nuggets, Cavaliers and Washington Wizards, serving as a high-profile name, proven scorer and durable option for several teams in need of offensive punch at a team-friendly price,” ESPN wrote.

In fact, Miami is a destination the veteran has been linked to during previous free agencies. The Heat appear to be one of the most likely landing spots for DeRozan.

“Miami Heat have been a Derozan landing spot for years now, there's been so much connectivity between him and the Heat and I do think the Heat seem to be the most likely scenario for DeMar DeRozan right now…Miami is probably his best bet…those other spots really don't have spending power," The Stein Line's Jake Fischer said.

Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale has Miami signing DeRozan over teams such as the Nuggets and Cavaliers.

“So much attention is paid to what DeMar DeRozan can't do: hit threes, spend a ton of time off the ball, defend, etc. We need to spend more time appreciating that someone in his late-30s remains a durable walking bucket. DeRozan has missed 13 combined games over the past three seasons and racked up more than 10 DNPs just twice for his entire career. The absence of meaningful three-point volume works against him, but he's averaged over 20 points per 36 minutes on better than 50 percent shooting inside the arc through each of the past seven seasons,” Favale wrote.

Miami adding another scorer to the roster is exactly what the team needs alongside Bam Adebayo and Antetokounmpo. It is a make-or-break type of season in South Beach, especially after making the biggest trade of the offseason.

DeRozan has earned $305 million in contracts throughout his career, and his addition would give the Heat another proven offensive weapon. Adding him would only make Miami’s offense more dangerous and could give the team another veteran scorer capable of creating his own shot.
