Baker Mayfield drove the Bucs into field-goal range with a chance to tie the game in the final minute. But he threw an interception to Lathan Ransom at the Carolina 30-yard line with 49 seconds left. That sealed the win for the Panthers.

The Panthers (8-7) now control their own destiny in the NFC South race.

If Carolina beats Seattle (12-3) in Week 17, a Bucs loss to Miami (6-9) would hand the division to the Panthers. The two teams also meet in the season finale, which could decide everything.

The Buccaneers (7-8) head to Miami next week. Mayfield and company have to win out and pray Carolina stumbles to keep their playoff dreams alive.
